Rankin School District #98 - Press Release
Rankin School District #98 - Press Release
Greetings,
Wolf Carbon Solutions US LLC submitted an application to the Illinois Commerce Commission for a request for a certificate of authority to construct and operate a carbon dioxide pipeline and when necessary take interests in property as provided by the law of eminent domain. The case was filed on June 16th, and it can be found HERE -P2023-0475. On June 29th (approximately), Rankin was notified that the District is considered a potentially affected landowner. On behalf of the District, I have attended multiple meetings (both online and in-person), and our Board has been reviewing the information that has been provided to them regarding this matter. Further, our Board has discussed this subject at multiple meetings, and they listened to a presentation from Mr. Elton Rocke at Monday’s Board Meeting (August 28th). Mr. Rocke represents the group Tazewell County: Stop the CO2 Pipeline. After careful consideration and discussion regarding this matter, the Board of Education has determined (full consensus) that it opposes this pipeline as it relates to it being located on campus or in proximity to Rankin, citing the safety concerns of our students and staff. The Board’s top priority is always the safety of our students and staff. It’s anticipated that the Board will pass a formal resolution indicating their opposition, as described above, at their next meeting on September 25th.
Sincerely,
Dr. Matt Gordon
Superintendent
